The story of Dillon Assembly began during the days of the great depression in the early 1930’s when two women, Margret and Viola, prayerfully felt the need to began a Pentecostal church in the hub City of Beaverhead County. So, they rented a home and started to hold services. Margret would eventually marry an Assemblies of God preacher Dwight C. Ritchie and they became the first Pastors of the AG church group in Dillon. From the early 1930’s through the 1940’s various individuals (up to 5) came to Dillon to help minister to the church group.
Then in 1946 the group was incorporated as an official Assembly of God church under the leadership of Rev. Walter Daggett. After him came Leo Hamar who Pastored until 1951. Through both of their eras the original building on the current corner property of East Glendale and South California was purchased, remodeled, and used until it was torn down in April of 1971 to make room for the new building. Between those times several great men of God lead as pastor of the little church. There was one odd season where there was no pastor between 1961-1967. During that time the Assemblies of God did not host any church services in the building but another Pentecostal group from The Church of God rented the building and conducted meetings. In 1967 Pastor Darrell Newby came and re-launched the church with the help of some people from the former church. Pastor Wells Gage then came after him in 1970. On April 7, 1972 the new building was dedicated!
Several other great men of God have pastored here since then including: Curtis Cole 92-95, Charles (Chuck) Bush (1995-2008), Ryan Spurlock (2008-2016).
Pastor James Matthews is the 18th pastor of Dillon Assembly. He and his wife Hannah arrived at Dillon Assembly in December 2016 with a simple dream of leading a church that would be a vibrant community of people who follow Jesus wholeheartedly and help others do the same. The church bought in and we have watched God transform many lives already.
We are focused on following Jesus daily and reaching out to people who are far from God with the life-giving mission of Jesus Christ. Because of this we have almost quadrupled in size as a local congregation since 2017. We currently help support around 6 global missions partners and 7 Local missions partners with a vision to expand those that we support aggressively to help missionaries spread the good news of Jesus all over our global and local world. This passion for the mission of Jesus is also driving us to prayerfully pursue planting several extension campuses in some of our surrounding rural areas soon. We are working with all the energy God gives us to this end!
Dillon Assembly is a collection of imperfect people who love God and are passionately pursuing a relationship with Him. We are delighted that you are here! And we invite you to see for yourself how exciting church can be when people have a singular purpose and are going after God together with passion.
